Jimmie Allen, George Birge, Kendal Conrad, 7 p.m. Aug. 10, Wind Creek Steel Stage at PNC Plaza, SteelStacks, Musikfest. Gates open at 6 p.m. Allen, a native of Delaware, received an American Country Music (ACM) nomination, New Male Artist of the Year (2019), Country Music Association Awards nomination, New Artist of the Year (2020) and the ACM Award, New Male Artist of the Year (2021). His debut album was “Mercury Lane” (2018). Allen is the first black artist to launch a career with two consecutive No. 1 hits on country radio, with “Best Shot” No. 1 for three weeks and his second single, “Make Me Want To,” No. 1 in March 2020. “Bettie James” (2020), a seven-track EP, garnered 120-plus million streams. “Why Things Happen” brings together three generations of black country artists: Allen, Darius Rucker and Charley Pride. On July 13, Allen published his debut picture book, “My Voice Is a Trumpet” (Flamingo Books, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers), illustrated by Cathy Ann Johnson.
