Sally Hill, of Salisbury Township, recently was recognized by the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services as a community Unsung Hero for her dedication as a volunteer.
The Unsung Hero designation recognizes volunteer efforts of older Americans.
In a nomination letter from the staff at Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living, Hill is described as someone who “genuinely cares for LVCIL and the people who work there.”
A retired school music educator, Hill is said to be the “driving force” behind the program Common Playgrounds, a disability sensitivity training for elementary and middle school students, according to those who nominated her.
“Thanks to her efforts, thousands of children across the Lehigh Valley have heard positive messages about people with disabilities,” nominators said.
Traditionally, a luncheon and program hosted by the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services honors those recognized as Unsung Heroes. However, pandemic conditions and restrictions suspended the luncheon and agency officials instead traveled to present honorees with citations, yard signs, flowers and balloons, according to a video from the agency linked through the agency’s web page on the Lehigh County website.
