Despite the brightly shining sun and the warm, humid temperatures, Whitehall Township and the Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce are putting last-minute touches on a Christmas event - planned for this Sunday.
It’s Christmas in July!
Organizers will host the event - originally scheduled as a true Christmas in December gathering - July 25 at the barn on the Peter Grim Homestead, 1111 Lehnert Road, Whitehall.
A tree-lighting ceremony will kick off the day 4 p.m., with the entire event running until 7 p.m. Tony Cocca, township interim bureau chief of parks and recreation, said the fun may be extended if there is a good crowd turnout.
Christmas carols will be sung.
Whitehall Historical Preservation Society has crafted Christmas ornaments, made out of natural materials and available for purchase.
Children can participate in a candy cane hunt 4:30 p.m. and enjoy a special visit with a summertime Santa Claus and Elsa and Anna from Disney’s “Frozen,” set for 5-7 p.m.
Musical performances include the Knobby Whistlers, 4-5 p.m., and Tim Harakal, 5-7 p.m.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from DonutNV, Bodega Bistro, Couchpota-doh, RK Mobile Foods and Triple Sun Spirits.
More than 20 vendors will set up shop, including The Fresh Soap LLC, Deborah McGinley Crafts and Auntie Nans Unique Gifts.
The Christmas in July celebration was made possible with the help from local sponsors: Fellowship Community, Home Instead Senior Care, EBC Printing, First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union, Crayola Experience, BB&T (now Truist), Heritage Insurance, Precision Medical and Lehigh Valley Press.
