Richard E. Stetch

Richard E. Stetch, 91, of Northampton, died June 28, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Barbara (Cyktor) Stetch.

He was employed for 31 years with Mack Trucks’ engineering and development test center, Allentown, until he retired in 1986. He taught for a short period at St. John’s School. In 1963, he opened a bakery, where he baked ethnic foods and sold Ukrainian crafts, cookbooks and baking supplies.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Northampton, where he sang and directed parishioners in singing during Divine Liturgy. He sang for various Panachyda services. In the 1950s and 60s, he accompanied the assistant pastor to parishioners’ homes to bless the Easter foods. He taught ethnic cooking at local churches. He created about 100 floral bouquets almost every year for the Aug. 15 feast day.

He was a member of the Friendly Fifties. He was a member of the Apostleship of Prayer Society for many years and was president from 1963 to 1989. He was a member of the Northampton County polling and election for the Fourth Ward in Northampton for many years.

He is survived by a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; nieces; and nephews.
