George Taylor House volunteers brought in a fabulous ceremony to Catasauqua for this year’s Fourth of July celebration at the historic home at Lehigh and Poplar streets.
This year’s event was a true celebration, larger than past years and a new metric for using the George Taylor House as an event center for Catasauqua.
The local volunteers spearheaded the event and included the Bachmann Players, Whitehall Guard Fife and Drum Corps, period ballads, wine tasting and tours of the house.
The events were well attended and visited by many locals who had not yet been to the house. They have a little piece of history sitting in their backyard.
“We have seen the house before, but we didn’t know we could see it up close. It was great to see it and to play at the event,” said Ken Purcell, who was one of the balladeers.
The organizers were happy with the attendees who came to the event. The estimated crowd was about 225 people, far surpassing earlier events.
The George Taylor House is one of only a handful of homes remaining of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. For the historians, George Taylor came to America as an indentured servant, became a skilled blacksmith and forged an iron works company that produced iron for cannonballs used during the Revolutionary War.
