Lehigh County Farm Bureau presents scholarships
Lehigh County Farm Bureau President Bill Boyd, Scholarship Committee Chairman Paul Semmel, and Lisa Sell, wife of late Scott Sell, recently took part in the inaugural presentation of scholarships from the Scott Sell Memorial Agricultural Scholarship Fund.
Two, first time scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each were awarded to Katie Schmidt and Tristan Rice.
Katie, the daughter of Connie and Dale Schmidt, graduated from Northwestern Lehigh High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Science National Honors Society.
She also was involved in track and field, 4-H Club and treasurer of the Foreign Language International Club.
Katie worked part time at Saucon Animal Hospital, Crystal Spring Dairy Farm, Schmidt’s Berry Farm, Buttered Crumb Bakery and two privately owned horse farms.
She is enrolled in the veterinary technician program at Lehigh Carbon Community College and will begin her studies this fall.
Tristan, son of Doug and Candy Rice, graduated from Southern Lehigh High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and played football for four years.
He was active in his church youth group and did volunteer maintenance and yard work for Triple C Nursery School.
Living on a farm, he performed a variety of chores including feeding, caring and maintaining a variety of farm animals and specialty fowl.
He also works for Seedway LLC and helps his neighbor bale hay.
Tristan is enrolled in the agronomy, crop science program at Delaware Valley University and will begin his studies this fall.
In recognition of their achievements, Katie and Tristan will receive complementary one-year memberships in the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
