The 4-H Dirty Gloves Gardening SPIN Club is offering a hybrid program with two in-person sessions, two virtual sessions, and a kit full of activities and supplies for kids ages 5-18.
The final session will be the 4-H Garden Dirty Glove Contest.
This 4-H SPIN (Special Interest) Club is being planned by 4-H teen, Kamryn Fink, who attended the National Agri-Science Summit in the spring.
During the National 4-H Youth Summit on Agri-Science, high school students develop the skills and knowledge needed for the challenges facing agriculture, food security and sustainability.
With support of 4-H staff, Kamryn will begin with an in-person session 6:30 p.m. July 8 at the pavilion at Cedar Creek Park West, Allentown.
The program will end at the same location at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1.
On Aug. 6 and Sept. 10 the sessions will be held via Zoom at 6:30 p.m.
Gardeners will be planting carrot seeds, making a seed tape, a paper seedling pot, root recycling with a sweet potato, making a seed viewer, hearing guest speakers, planting a container garden, and taking a virtual farm field trip.
The kit will include a 4-H tool tote, gardening trowel, stake, gardening workbook, seeds, soil, gardening gloves, and produce recipe cards.
There is a fee per 4-H member.
Anyone joining 4-H for the first time will pay an additional 4-H enrollment fee.
First time 4-H members must register at 4h.zsuite.org.
