An 35-year-old male, of Emmaus, was critically injured in an apparent fireworks explosion in the 200 block of Green Street June 20, according to Emmaus police.
Authorities described the incident in a media release June 21:
At approximately 9:29 p.m. June 20, Emmaus police were dispatched to the Green Street location after Lehigh County Communications received numerous emergency calls and were reporting a male injured from an apparent fireworks explosion.
Emmaus officers, Emmaus Ambulance Corps and civilians rendered first aid at the scene, including a tourniquet, before the injured male was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Police officers observed a Ram 1500 pickup truck parked in the road and determined the injured male was seated in the vehicle at the time of detonation.
As a precaution the Allentown Bomb Squad was requested to determine if the vehicle contained additional fireworks that would be a public safety concern.
Bomb squad investigators determined the vehicle did not contain additional fireworks and did not pose any additional threat to the area.
Emmaus police investigators learned the male who was injured allegedly purchased the fireworks approximately a year ago and was not involved in the manufacturing of the fireworks.
According to police, the male is in critical condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
