State police address traffic woes in Hanover Township

At the June 1 Hanover Township Council meeting, Cpl. Eric Kaub, with Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, provided an update on the Bethlehem barracks’ service to the township and its priorities for the future.

Traffic concerns continue to be a problem, Kaub said. The issue of drivers who do not stop at intersections, primarily at Troxell, Taft, Ulster and Clarence streets, remains.

Kaub said he believes drivers are aware of these intersections but ignore the stop signs. Troopers will continue to spot check for infractions.

Council agreed the state police continue to provide the township with excellent service.

In other business, township Engineer Albert Kortze provided the latest updates on road projects. The bid for the Postal Road project was awarded to New Enterprise LLC.

Kortze said he expects the project to be completed this summer. The project has been on the back burner and was sidetracked during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kortze also gave an update on the swale at Allendale Apartments. The cost was above the expected norm.

As noted at the last council meeting, the project is too large for a small company and too small for a larger company. The project will be placed on hold.

According to township Manager Melissa Wehr, there is an option to look at grant funding to get the project completed. Kortze agreed the project is not critical. The maintenance people at the apartments can continue to mow the swale.

Kortze indicated the sinkhole was filled and the paving will be reset. Crews did not notice any water leaks at lateral lines.

Wehr discussed recent noise complaints. The action is reportedly directed at Days Inn, 3400 Airport Road, but all of the motels in the township were notified action will be taken to reduce noise pollution, she said.
