LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Catty public servant honored

Inclement weather did not dim the enthusiasm of family and friends at a dedication ceremony June 3 in Catasauqua Borough.

The late James P. Thomas was the husband of the late Genoveffa (Cerullo) and father of James, the late Ronald, Connie, Sally, Linda, Telene and Debra.

Thomas, a longtime elected Catasauqua public servant, was honored by his family with the placement of a park bench located on American Street, overlooking Catasauqua Park and Playground.

Catasauqua Mayor Barbara A. Schlegel read a proclamation to family members present, recognizing the commitment of Thomas to his beloved community. Catasauqua Borough Council President Vincent Smith was also present to pay tribute.

Thomas served on council for 12 years, as well as on numerous council committees.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he was an officer with Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, a leader with Catasauqua Exchange Club and a member of various fire companies.

Thomas was only 55 years old when he died in 1965. This left family and friends to ponder what else he would have done to serve Catasauqua had he had the benefit of longevity.

He was self employed in a produce business in Catasauqua.

The dedication ceremony was held on what would have been the birthday of Thomas’ late son, Ronald.
