Skins knock Trojans out of state playoffs

Parkland’s varsity baseball season came to an end Monday in the first round of the state playoffs.

The Trojans took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and were leading 5-3 after four inning. Neshaminy, the District 1 champion, took the lead with a three-run fifth inning before adding an insurance run in the sixth.

Parkland jumped out to an early lead when Bo Barthol led off the game with a single, Andrew Keller reached base on an error and Blake Barthol knocked in Bo Barthol with a line-drive single.

Keller scored when Neshaminy committed an error on a Bryce Ratliff ground ball. A Luke Meehan double made it 3-0 with one out. Neshaminy starter Justus Agosto struck out the next two Parkland batters to end the threat.

The Skins, which battled through five errors in the game, narrowed the lead with two runs in the second inning and tied the game with another in the third inning.

Parkland, the second place team out of District 11, got the lead back in the top of the fourth inning when Jesse Ruisch and Jacob Donmoyer started the inning with singles before Taiki Horiguchi loaded the bases with a bunt single.

Despite having the bases loaded with no outs, Parkland got its two runs in the inning on an error and a balk to take a 5-3 lead.

Neshaminy answered with four runs over the next two innings to seal the win and advance to the PIAA Class 6A quarterfinals where it will meet District 1 third-place finisher North Penn on Thursday.

Blake Barthol had two hits for Parkland, along with two walks in four plate appearances. Bo Barthol was 1-for-4 and scored twice in the game.

Starting pitcher Joe Algard threw four innings and gave up just four hits while striking out one and walking three.
