Carpenter awarded Fulbright

Nathan Carpenter, of Fountain Hill and director of global education and international services at Northampton Community College, has been awarded a fellowship from the U.S. Fulbright Scholars program, the nation’s flagship international exchange program. He was selected for the International Education Administrator Seminar in France. He will join a cohort of 12 U.S. “Ful-brighters” in October to meet with French university and college faculty, administrators, educational experts, and government officials.

He has received fellowships from Fulbright, Foreign Language and Area Studies,and the American Council of Learned Societies. He earned a PhD from the University of California, Davis. He writes and publishes on global studies, African history, exile, and borders.

Diaz inducted into college honor society

Bethlehem area students Bridget Diaz, Ashley Palonis and Nicole Pitosky were recently inducted into Alpha Omicron Alpha, the college’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, the national honor society for two-year colleges.

Falco awarded education service honors

Kaitlyn Falco, of Bethlehem,was recognized for contributions to the campus with Wilkes University’s Extracurricular Awards. She received Teacher Education Service Award, awarded to a student who is actively involved in the university community as well as the educational community at-large.

Taliaferro receives Bowman Prize Scholarship

Maya Taliaferro of Bethlehem was named the recipient of The Dr. Philip I. Bowman Prize Scholarship at Hamilton College’s annual Class & Charter Day. The outdoor, socially-distanced ceremony was held May 11. The event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of college’s charter May 26, 1812.

‘Berg dancers showcase talent

Muhlenberg College’s Dance Program and t Dance Association collaborated to present “Ephemerality: Dances In Time ” April 16-18. The program showcased the work of 12 student and three faculty choreographers, and more than 60 dancers from the department’s dance program. The dancers included Megan Evans Gartley of Bethlehem.

McCabe in ‘Unstable Connections’

Gabrielle McCabe of Bethlehem was part of the three-episode web series, “Unstable Connections,” which explored the comedy of Zoom gone wrong and Zoom gone right. Created for Muhlenberg College’s Mnemonic Theatre Festival, the weekly series premiered April 15.

The show’s co-creators, Muhlenberg theater Professor Beth Schachter and guest artist Gertjan Houben, set out to create contemporary tragicomedies with a core group of actors, all set in different Zoom meetings.
