The Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup baseball team is featuring players from 14 different schools this year, as they opened up tournament play Tuesday afternoon against Philadelphia Catholic.

This is the 35th edition of the tournament following last year’s absence due to coronavirus pandemic, as the 16-team, single-elimination event kicked off on Monday at Philadelphia’s FDR Park.

This year’s team features five players from Bethlehem, as Chaise Albus (Bethlehem Catholic, Jr., OF/P), Parker Frey (Liberty, Sr., OF/P), Eric Ludwick (Liberty, Sr., C), Beckham McNally (Becahi, So., P) and Matt Martinez (Becahi, Sr., C) will be part of the 18-man roster for this year’s squad.

Should the Lehigh Valley team win in Tuesday’s matchup, they would move on to play on Friday at 12:30 p.m. against either Olympic Colonial or Jersey Shore in the quarterfinals.

Semifinals and finals will take place at Citizens Bank Park with the final four round set for June 21, while the championship game is on June 24.
