Change requests for 2021-2022 due June 30

Report cards for this school year will be mailed the week of June 21 as well as information about the 2021-2022 school year bell schedule and other various plans for next school year.

Families will have until June 30 to make any change requests to assigned courses on a student’s schedule for the 2021-2022 school year. These requests must be made by a student’s parent or guardian in writing (email is also acceptable) either on or before June 30 to the student’s guidance counselor. Any request made by this date will be considered for changes; however, course changes depend on the availability of seating in classes.

The deadline for summer school registration is noon June 18. Any questions about summer school should be addressed to the student’s counselor or Assistant Principal Jessica Thacher.

The 2021 Emmaus High School Art Show is now available for virtual viewing via the 2021 EHS Art Show website. The link to the art show page can be found on the EHS website.

During the 2021-2022 school year, EHS will be starting a “competitive, interscholastic” esports team. The team is still in the stages of planning and coordinating and needs student participation and involvement to get the ball rolling. Any questions regarding the club should be directed to Mr. Dietrick or Mr. Geist.

During the 2021-2022 school year, EHS will follow an A/B block schedule. In this block schedule, students attend a maximum of four classes per day, which are longer than the classes on a typical schedule. Students attend half of their classes each day, on an A/B rotation.

One credit courses will run for a full year while half credit courses will last for one semester – two marking periods.

Quarter credit classes will go for one marking period. Additionally, a few courses receive more than one credit and these will meet for a double period on some days to complete lab activities.

Finally, a 41-minute “Hornet Period” will occur twice a week, where students will be able to gain extra and participate in other available activities.

Students who would like to be remote during the 2021-2022 school year will have the choice of EPSD’s cyber program VESPA. For more information, see the EHS website.

With my senior year coming to an end, this will be my final column. I am grateful for the opportunities and experience the East Penn Press has given me these past two years. I look forward to completing high school and moving on to the next part. Starting in the fall, I’ll be majoring in media production at Northampton Community College. I am very excited to take this step and learn new things and meet new people.

Editor’s Note: We thank Jacob for his contributions as an Emmaus High School columnist and for keeping the community apprised of activities and achievements at the high school. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.
