The seventh summer of Bach’s music in Allentown begins June 15 with the first of three virtual “Bach At Noon” performances presented by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The concerts will be videotaped, featuring smaller ensembles of musicians. There will be no audience.

After premiering June 15, “Bach at Noon” is the second Tuesday of the month in July and August on The Bach Choir You Tube channel.

“Bach At Noon” is a series of 10 free concerts the Bach Choir performs each year, including three in center city Allentown, led by Bach Choir Artistic Director and Conductor Greg Funfgeld, presented in collaboration with “Arts at St. John’s.”

As established during the summer of 2020, in lieu of gathering a group of Choir and Orchestra members, the concerts will offer solo pieces, duets and small ensemble compositions, performed by vocal soloists and featuring members of The Bach Festival Orchestra.

“It is always a joy to make music in Saint John’s Lutheran Church in the heart of downtown Allentown,” said Funfgeld.

“We are profoundly grateful to Cantor Eric Gombert, Pastor Brad Carroll, and the congregation of that great Church for their kindness and the warmth of their hospitality.

“Bach’s music sounds glorious in this beautiful, acoustically magnificent space. His profound spirituality, gorgeous melodies, brilliant counterpoint, and sheer genius is a gift to us all.

“We’re delighted to make these musical offerings available and I hope listeners across the country and around the world will share these treasures with us,” Funfgeld said in the press release.

Nola Richardson and Janna Critz are winners of the bi-annual Young American Singers Competition, sponsored by The American Bach Society and The Bach Choir of Bethlehem.
