Wild seeks funding for airport additions

U.S. Congresswoman Susan Wild, D-7th, announced April 28 the community-funded projects she is submitting to the House Committee on Appropriations for consideration this funding cycle.

“These community-funded projects will make my district safer, stronger and better equipped to meet the needs of the hardworking Pennsylvanians I represent,” Wild said. “Now, I look forward to working to get as many of them funded as possible.”

One of the requests was for $442,418 for Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority to assist with facilities and equipment for the security checkpoint and terminal connector project.

The overall project includes a new four-lane security screening checkpoint within a 25,000-square-foot addition to the terminal complex through a new elevated terminal connector.

This grant would cover a portion of the facilities and equipment for the project, specifically, the LifeAire Systems associated with the HVAC and air circulation/purification within the new security screening checkpoint.

In compliance with House rules and committee requirements, Wild has certified she and her immediate family have no financial interest in any of the projects she has requested.

Wild was only able to select 10 out of the 50 applications she received. The House Committee on Appropriations will make the final decision in the coming months on which of the projects will receive funding.

Applications outside of these 10 have an additional chance to apply for Community Project Funding this year through U.S. Sen. Robert Casey. U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey stated he will not be participating in the CPF process.

Wild and her office will assist by sharing information on applications to assist Casey and his office with the significant task of reviewing a high volume of requests. Information about how to apply via Casey will be available soon.

The CPF process was new to Congress this year, the application window was short, and the award criteria were extremely specific.

Despite these enormous challenges, Wild’s office received many other excellent projects than could move forward for final consideration by the committee.
