Holy Spirit seeks final approval to expand lot

During the May 20 meeting, Upper Milford’s Board of Supervisors carried a motion to approve “a very small addition” of an Emmaus church parking lot as per recommendations from the planning commission.

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit is in the final stage of completing its plans before they can move into action. Planning Coordinator Brian Miller explained the planning commission’s review of the land development advised “no additional right of way or easements being required at this time.”

The commission also recommended approval of waivers attached to a letter dated Feb. 29. Miller acknowledged the waiver letter mentioned zoning ordinance and stormwater Ordinance 106. The board approved the waivers and preliminary and final plan.

Following that, the board reviewed a letter from Macungie Borough requesting fire police presence at several summer car show events, including the Wheels of Time and Das Awkscht Fescht.

Supervisor Robert Sentner began a motion to make both Upper Milford Fire Company and Citizens Fire Company available for the events listed “if they’re able and willing.” The motion was carried.

In other news, Township Manager Bud Carter reported the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation contacted him regarding a detour that will pass through Upper Milford Township. The department closed a bridge on Palm Road in Lower Milford Township following an inspection. The detour will follow through Powder Valley to Geissinger Road to Kings Highway.

PennDOT anticipates the process following the inspection will be short, which Carter anticipates may be several months.

Following that, the meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m. and the board moved into an executive session.
