Mae D. Bittner
Mae D. Bittner, 94, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, died May 29, 2021.
Born in Weisenberg Township, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Minnie (Leiby) Smith.
In her teen years, she worked two jobs at the Stines Corner Hotel and as a telephone operator with dreams of becoming a nurse.
Her dreams changed after she went on her first date with Clark Bittner, whom she married and raised two sons with, Richard and Larry, two of her greatest joys in life.
Helping her children and grandchildren was at the top of her list of favorite things to do.
It is an understatement to say she loved to bake and share with everyone from family to neighbors to church.
She would often ask what pie or cake you wanted and, just like that, it was made.
In addition to baking, she enjoyed working.
The farm was her life, driving tractors and caring for the livestock.
If she was not on the farm, you could find her at Friedens Lutheran Church, Stony Run, where she was a member for more than 60 years as a Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and council, volunteer and, most importantly, a church social “baker.”
She cared deeply about everyone in her life and believed caring, forgiving and praying for peace in the world was the best advice a person could follow to live a fulfilling life. She simply was wonderful.
She is survived by her son, Richard, and wife, Millyann, their son, Jack and wife, Amanda, and their daughter, Amanda and fiancé, Steven Kozlowski; and son Larry and his wife, Pat, their daughter Angela and husband, Andrew Perich, their son Aaron and wife Caley, and their son Seth and wife Kelley; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband; sisters Mary Phillips and Anna Mae Gruber; and brother Forrest Smith.
Her memorial service will be June 5 at Friedens Lutheran Church, 9727 Red Road, Kempton.
Visitation 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Service at 10:30 a.m. Interment at church cemetery.
