After a year off in 2020, Mayfair Festival of the Arts is back “in-person,’ May 28-30 on the Cedar Crest College campus.
Returning will be live free music performances on two stages, an artists’ market, workshops, food vendors and new this year, on-site Covid-19 vaccines.
“We are excited to give our community an opportunity to celebrate the arts safely and in person,” says Audra Kahr, chair of the Mayfair committee and CFO-COO at Cedar Crest College.
“This year’s festival will look different than previous years, as we prepare to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and festival-goers, but attendees can expect to see many local artists, performers and food vendors.”
Festival hours are 4 - 10 p.m. May 28 and noon - 10 p.m. May 29 and 30.
Mayfair was canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Mayfair will feature 20 music performers on the main stage and the bandstand stages, including headliners The Large Flowerheads, Jimmy and the Parrots, Go Go Gadjet and Central City Orchestra.
Cedar Crest is partnering with St. Luke’s University Health Network to offer Covid-19 vaccines on-site. Vaccines will be provided to those with scheduled appointments, 1 - 4 p.m. May 29 and 30 on the Crest campus.
St. Luke’s, the official health partner of Mayfair, expects to administer 500 Johnson & Johnson vaccines. There will be schedulers available for alternate appointments.
“We are grateful to be celebrating Mayfair in-person, and we want to further serve our community by providing festival-goers with an opportunity to be vaccinated while they are here,” says Kahr.
“St. Luke’s University Health Network has worked closely with the college throughout the pandemic and has provided constant support and medical advice. I am proud to partner with them on this initiative.”

Cedar Crest brought the more than 30-year Mayfair tradition to the Allentown campus in 2018 after the festival had been canceled by former organizers in 2017. The college returned the festival to its roots with free admission and showcasing area artists, performers and vendors.
Taking the main stage May 28 is Central City Orchestra, a 10-piece ensemble from Central Pennsylvania, led by Katie Robinette and Amy Banks. The high-energy band’s repertoire includes classic standards from the 1940s and 1950s, rhythm & blues favorites, disco, funk, contemporary rock and pop.
The headliners on the main stage May 29 are The Large Flowerheads, the Lehigh Valley-based five-person band whose 1960s show encompasses the music from British Invasion to Woodstock.
Also performing May 29 is the Jimmy Buffet tribute band Jimmy and the Parrots.
The May 30 main stage act is Go Go Gadjet, a band that blends the rhythms of dance music with popular tunes and straddles the line between band and DJ by combing traditional instruments with modern synthesizers and controllers.
Performers May 30 include The BC Combo, The Sofa Kings, Ben Tyler, The Ultra Kings and Billy Bauer Band.
The Artists’ Market, located throughout the festival grounds, features dozens of artists, including the Allentown School District Foundation, which will have ASD students’ artwork available on note cards and prints.
Other artists will offer items such as silver jewelry, up-cycled art, fabric arts, doll clothes, wildlife prints and cards, mineral and fossil art, nature photography, and homemade dog treats.
Food vendors, such as Bananarama, which serves frozen organic banana whip, will return.
New for the 2021 festival are open mic nights, 7 - 10 May 28, and 7:30 - 10 p.m. May 29 and May 30 on the bandstand stage.
Local performers will have the chance to showcase their talents. Performances can include music, poetry, dance and children’s entertainment. Performers are allowed 20 minutes to perform. Mountain Top Productions will provide stereo sound system and equipment.
Learn about photography as you take a 15-minute walk to Cedar Creek Park to enjoy the beauty of the college campus, the park and the Malcolm W. Gross Memorial Rose Gardens with “Amy’s Angle Nature Photography Walk and Talk” workshop, 3 p.m. May 29. Meet in Lees Hall and bring your camera.
Miniature Fairy Garden Workshops will be held 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. May 29 and 30 in Harmon Hall. JoAnn Bowman of Wee Folk Gardens will lead participants in creating a miniature fairy garden, a two- tier layered clay pot garden, which includes small plants, potting soil, fairy and colorful stones to create an enchanted garden.

Despite recent loosening of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Pennsylvania Health Department coronavirus protocol, Mayfair officials are encouraging attendees to wear face masks and observe social distancing, says Heather Lavin, Cedar Crest College media relations, social media manager.
