Memorial Day: Groups plan weekend programs

Veterans groups and community members will gather this weekend to honor those who have lost their lives in service to our country. The following Memorial Day services information was supplied to The Press staff.
NORTHAMPTON
• Sons of Veterans of the Grand Army of the Republic, Captain Theodore H. Howell Camp No. 48, will participate in Memorial Day events May 30 and May 31.
The schedule for May 30 follows: 8:15 a.m., Fairview Cemetery, Cherryville Road, Northampton; 9 a.m., St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Seemsville (service and cemetery); 10:20 a.m., Emmanuel Church, Emanuelsville (cemetery only); 11 a.m., Christ United Church of Christ, Little Moore, between Klecknersville and Rockville (cemetery only); noon, Horner’s Cemetery, Nor-Bath Boulevard; and 2 p.m., Zion Stone United Church of Christ, Kreidersville (service and cemetery).
The May 31 schedule includes the following: 8 a.m., Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Plot, Lincoln and Dewey avenues, Northampton; 8:45 a.m., Allen Union Cemetery, Fourth and Main streets, Northampton (inclement weather will move this service to Grace United Church of Christ, Ninth Street and Lincoln Avenue, Northampton); 9:45 a.m., St. John’s United Church of Christ, Howertown (service and cemetery); 11 a.m., Siegfried Memorial Plot, West 21st Street, Northampton.
• The Joint Veterans Organization will hold a Memorial Day program 11 a.m. May 31 at the borough’s veterans plaza, 14th Street and Dewey Avenue. A dedication ceremony will take place for the relocated howitzer, which had long been at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714. In addition to the VFW, Catholic War Veterans Post 454 and American Legion Post 353 will participate in the joint service.
• VFW Post 4714 members will also offer tributes at the following cemeteries earlier in the day: 8:30 a.m., Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery; 9 a.m., St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery; 9:30 a.m., Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery; and 10 a.m., Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery.
CATASAUQUA
• American Legion Post 215 will travel to various locations in Catasauqua and North Catasauqua boroughs May 31: 10 a.m., Fairview Cemetery; 10:15 a.m., Pine Street Bridge; 10:30 a.m., North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park; 10:45 a.m., St. Mary’s cemetery; and 11 a.m., Legion Post, 330 Second St., Catasauqua.
COPLAY
• Stanley W. Reinhard Jr. American Legion Post 426 will holds its services May 30. Starting noon, Post members will begin at the Coplay Saengerbund, traveling then to St. Peter Roman Catholic Church cemetery, St. John’s Lutheran Church cemetery, Stiles war memorial, Coplay Cemetery, Coplay war memorial on Maple Street and Coplay-Northampton Bridge before ending the afternoon at the Coplay Legion building on South Second Street.
WHITEHALL
• Jones-Quigg American Legion Post 739, Hokendauqua, will begin 9 a.m. May 30 with a program at Arlington Cemetery, followed by a 9:30 a.m. stop at St. John’s United Church of Christ, MacArthur Road. Post participants will continue to the memorial in Darktown before going to the triangle in Hokendauqua for an 11:15 a.m. program. State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, will be the featured speaker.
• Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, Egypt, will begin May 31 with a 9:30 a.m. service at the veterans monument on Main Street in Cementon. Post participants will then move to the Doughboy memorial, Park and South Church streets, Egypt, 10 a.m.; Egypt Park memorial, Hillcrest Lane and Curt Simmons Drive, 10:30 a.m.; and the township building, 11:30 a.m. Post 7293 will conclude its services noon at its Post, 5209 Springmill Road.
• Fullerton American Legion Post 367 will hold a 10 a.m. program May 31 at its Post, 609 Fullerton Ave.
• Whitehall Township will observe the holiday with a special program 11:30 a.m. May 31 on the grounds of the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road. The township’s veterans groups are expected to be in attendance.
