STUDENT PROFILE Sarah Brown, Freedom HS/Bethlehem Area VTS
Grade: 12th
Family members: Marie Brown (Mom), Pete Brown (Dad), Megan Brown (Sister), Ryan Brown
(Brother)
Favorite subject(s) and why: My favorite subject is Anatomy and Physiology. I am fascinated
by how complex the human body is. I enjoy studying all of the different components that go into
making the body function. My time in the Health Careers program at Bethlehem Area Vocational
Technical school has provided me with health related hands-on experience and a strong
foundation to be successful in nursing school.
Activities: I participated in the Buddies helping Buddies Club and Crafts for Kindness Club at
Freedom High School. At the Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School, I am Vice President
of our Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter. I am a member of the National
Honor Society as well as the National Technical Honor Society.
Next steps (after high school): After high school, I will be attending DeSales University to
study Nursing.
Career goals: In the future, I plan on specializing in psychiatric nursing. I would like to work in
detention centers, prisons, or psychiatric hospitals where I can not only work to improve my
patients’ physical well being, but also develop programs that will allow them to smoothly
transition back into society.
Heroes and why: My heroes are my parents. They have always been a source of love and
support for me and my siblings.
Hobbies: In my free time, I love to practice yoga. While in college, I plan on becoming a
certified yoga instructor. Volunteer/community work: I have volunteered at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Center where
I worked alongside occupational and speech therapists. I am also a volunteer at the Children’s
Home of Easton and bake birthday cakes for the residents.
Likes: I enjoy the outdoors and exploring new places. I am a certified organic gardener and
extremely passionate about gardening and healthy eating.
Dislikes: Celery
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment so far was receiving the
DeSales University’s Leadership full tuition scholarship. After competing against 400 other
applicants, I was one of 30 students to be granted an interview and was ultimately chosen as one
of six students who were awarded the scholarship.
Advice for peers: I would stress the importance of finding a strong support system. Whether
struggles arise academically or emotionally, I think it is important to have like minded
individuals to help you get through the tough times.
