Notre Dame honors class of 2021 with prom
After a challenging senior year, the class of 2021 enjoyed the time-tested tradition of prom masked up and in style May 7 at Notre Dame HS.
The event was planned and chaperoned by faculty and took place both inside and outside the school building to help with distancing.
“I’m glad we were able to organize something for the seniors, since the last two years have been so unpredictable and we weren’t sure if having a prom was a possibility,” said faculty member Amy Brennan, who headed up organizing the event.
Outside, faculty set up an elegant party tent with tables for standing only where seniors enjoyed refreshments provided by North Star Catering, Cone Appetit Food Truck and Oogie’s Ice Cream Truck. Meanwhile, DJ Sharbel Koorie from Fly Guy Music Productions transformed the spacious gymnasium into a flashy dance hall where the masked-up seniors cut a rug and crowned classmates Gwendylan Guo and Declan Fitzgerald as prom king and queen.
“We wanted to honor our seniors after this rough year,” explained principal Jacklyn Friel. “We wanted to celebrate both for them and with them. Many were not [physically] at school this year, so it was special for them to be able to celebrate here.”
“After a long year, this has been a really fun night of celebrating the class of 2021. I had a blast,” senior Nexxi Van Note told the Press.
