WHITEHALL: ‘Shrek’

An annoyed ogre finds himself on a life-changing journey when “DreamWorks’ Shrek the Musical” streams from the stage of Civic Theatre of Allentown, where it was filmed the weekend of May 10, instead of being presented in the auditorium, Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road, Whitehall.

Based on the humorous picture book “Shrek” by William Steig and the DreamWorks Animation film of the same title, the production features music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics and book by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Whitehall production director Edward Hong is assisted by music director Kendra Kramer and choreographer Melissa Zimmer.

Premiering on Broadway in 2008, “Shrek” was nominated for eight Tony Awards, receiving one Tony.

Musical numbers include “Big Bright Beautiful World,” “What’s Up, Duloc?,” “Morning Person,” “I Think I’ve Got You Beat” and “I’m a Believer.”
