Sometimes we take things too literally. One day Matt, Ben and I were sitting at the kitchen table working on a grocery list. We were out of napkins so I told Ben to put napkins on the list. I wasn’t watching what he did so when he said, “Wait ... what?” I repeated, “Put napkins on the list.” My husband was watching with a bemused expression. I looked over to see Ben physically taking a napkin and laying it on the list.

The next township column will be published June 2; copy deadline is May 26.
