The focus of the East Allen Township Board of Supervisors April 22 meeting was discussion and votes on 14 waivers requested by the developers of the Sunny Slope Crossings project.
All waivers were approved, clearing the way for the board to vote for conditional preliminary approval of the project. The board voted unanimously in support of preliminary approval.
The waivers addressed sidewalk issues, various lot sizes and retention pond adjustments. It is anticipated final plan approval for the project may occur this summer.
In other business, the board was informed the reconstruction of the Old Carriage Road will not include pedestrian considerations.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is performing the reconstruction and reportedly cited a lack of pedestrian usage at the bridge. The width of the bridge in PennDOT’s plans will be similar to the current bridge width.
“I’ve seen pedestrians and bicyclists on that road,” noted township Manager Brent Green.
Other meeting attendees also challenged PennDOT’s interpretation of pedestrian use of the bridge.
Green was asked to contact PennDOT to request an enlarged road width on the bridge so pedestrians and bicyclists can be accommodated. It was described as a public safety issue.
