Trojan boys lacrosse bounces back after loss
The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought, 9-6 defeat at home against Central Catholic recently. It was a tough blow to take against another Eastern Pennsylvania Conference title contender, but one that would potentially motivate the Trojans.
It seemed to have worked as Parkland went out less than 24 hours later and took down Saucon Valley 6-2 in a nonconference game, and then last Tuesday night the Trojans scored a season-high 18 goals in an 18-1 win over Northampton.
“This felt great for our offense tonight,” said Trojan senior midfielder Brett Cipolla. “We all want to contribute offensively, forwards and midfielders alike. It’s nice to have a game like this, just seeing the ball go into the back of the net is a confidence booster and can hopefully get our team going here for the final stretch of games.”
It did not take long for the Trojans (7-2 overall, 3-2 EPC) to get going against the Kids (0-9, 0-6). Matt Barraco won the opening faceoff, ran down field and found the back of the net just 12 seconds in to get the scoring off and running.
Northampton would actually tie the game at 1-1 with a goal at the 8:20 mark, but Mason Zaun answered 1:04 later and Parkland held a lead for the remainder of the way. The Trojans were ahead 7-1 after the first quarter and 9-1 when the teams broke for halftime as second quarter goals were scored by Matthew Albertson and Chase Kusko. Parkland then doubled its tally in the second half, scoring five goals in the third quarter and then four in the fourth.
“I think the offense has been clicking very well of late, especially tonight,” Cipolla said. “We had a few things we needed to fix earlier in the season, but as of now we have been working really well together and communicating and moving the ball.”
Parkland has games against Freedom and Bethlehem Catholic to finish out this week before some important EPC games next week against Easton and Emmaus before postseason play begins. The Trojans look to continue their win streak heading into playoffs.
“It feels great to be back on a win streak,” said Cipolla. “After losing to Central, everyone wants to work harder, which has ultimately helped us for the past two games and for games coming up here. We’re looking forward to playing against some competitive teams next week and working hard to come out on top.”
