Funfgeld delighted with 113th Bach Fest virtual format
The Bach Choir of Bethlehem presents the 113th Bethlehem Bach Festival with live-streaming of concerts and events.
The last Bach Festival was in 2019. There was no Festival held in 2020.
There will be no audiences at performances, which can be seen and heard via the Bach Choir’s live-streaming partner, WFMZ.com.
The modified Festival takes place during one weekend only, May 14 and 15, rather than the Festival’s usual two weekends.
Events will be streamed from Germany, Zoellner Arts Center, Bethlehem. and St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Allentown.
The Festival is free-of-charge, with free-will donations accepted.
Plans for the Festival are subject to change per COVID-19 restrictions.
Bach Choir of Bethlehem Artistic Director and Conductor Greg Funfgeld will lead the Bach Choir, Bach Festival Orchestra and guest soloists in the Festival performances.
Funfgeld will remain in his position through June 2022, completing his 39th season.
Rehearsals for the virtual Festival are following the Choir’s COVID-19 protocol, with small groups of singers rehearsing together, socially-distanced and wearing masks.
The Festival’s performances will also follow protocol restrictions, allowing for social-distancing, the wearing of face masks and limited contact among the performers.
Said Funfgeld, “Since the pandemic started, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem has been nimble, flexible, creative and responsive, continuing to offer this incredible music to listeners near and far.
“Our ‘Virtual Christmas Concert’ was seen by more than 8,000 people around the world.
“Similarly, our virtual ‘Bach at Noon’ concerts and ‘Moments Of Comfort’ have been received with deep appreciation.
“In these challenging times, this music offers comfort and peace, beauty and hope. And now our modified May Festival, virtual and live-streamed events, our soloists, choir and orchestra, the brilliant Paul Taylor Dance Company; a chamber music concert with music by Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, and a lecture from Peter Wollny, one of the world’s leading Bach scholars in Leipzig, where Bach lived and worked for the last 27 years of his life.
“These are precious moments, moments of great beauty and joy, hope and good cheer.
“We are delighted to be able to share them with all who listen, in all corners of the globe!”
