EHS softball makes districts
The Emmaus High School softball team has had a successful 2021 season so far. The Green Hornets qualified for their first District 11 Tournament in a couple of years and are playing their best softball down the stretch, when it matters most.
Emmaus is 10-8 overall and 9-5 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, and there is one major factor that head coach Brittany D’Agostino sees in her team that is helping them play winning softball.
“The team’s motivation and energy has shifted drastically in the last eight games,” said D’Agostino. “The energy makes a huge difference in game outcomes. We’ve been playing with infectious energy that motivates the entire team to play harder and it’s helped us out.”
Last week was a successful one for the Green Hornets. They qualified for districts with a victory over Liberty and then followed that up with a win on senior night two days later against East Stroudsburg North. Those were two important conference wins for morale and momentum purposes moving toward a future with even bigger games ahead.
“We made districts on Tuesday and it made senior night on Thursday even more enjoyable,” D’Agostino said. “The girls have been working extremely hard the last week and wanted to have a fun and memorable night. They were able to and didn’t have the pressure of knowing they needed to win to continue on their season.”
Emmaus has one more regular season game this week against Nazareth before opening up play in the postseason in districts. Their seed is still up for grabs, but D’Agostino believes wherever they are seeded and whatever team they are playing, the Green Hornets will be ready to play when the lights come on.
“We hope to shock a lot of people in the postseason,” said D’Agostino. “The girls have a different mentality right now and have their eyes on the prize. We are excited about districts and want to keep playing as long as we can.”
