113th Bach Festival schedule
Here’s the schedule for the 113th Bach Festival:
“The Barnette Distinguished Scholar Lecture”
Peter Wollny,
4 - 5 p.m. May 14
The lecture by Wollny will be presented from Leipzig, Germany.
Wollny, professor of musicology at Leipzig University; researcher at Bach-Archiv Leipzig, and its director since 2014, will talk about “Bach in Challenging Circumstances: Some Thoughts on Life and Creativity.”
Wollny has edited several volumes of “Neue Bach-Ausgabe,” is executive editor of “C.P.E. Bach: The Collected Works” and editor of “Bach-Jahrbuch.”
The major fields of Wollny’s scholarly interests are German and Italian music of the 17th century, the Bach family (with J.S. Bach in its center, but also including Bach’s ancestors as well as his sons and students), the reception of Bach’s music in the 19th century, and the transmission of sources in the 18th to 20th centuries.

- “Brandenburg Concertos No. 6 (Movements 1 and 2) and No. 3, Opus 88,” J.S. Bach
- “Esplanade,” “Violin Concerto in E Major, Double Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor (Largo and Allegro), Opus 61,” J.S. Bach. Performed to recorded music.
The performance opens with a conversation between Greg Funfgeld, Artistic Director and Conductor of The Bach Choir, and Michael Novak, Artistic Director of Paul Taylor Dance Company, as they discuss the Company and dance inspired by J.S. Bach’s music.
- “Flute Sonata in E-flat Major,” J.S. Bach
Robin Kani, flute; Greg Funfgeld, harpsichord
Kani is principal flautist of the Bach Festival Orchestra. Kani, a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and the University of Michigan, completed her studies at the Juilliard School of the Performing Arts. Kani has performed at Alice Tully, New York City; Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C., and in England, Mexico, Germany, Spain and the Czech Republic.
The concert is supported in part by The Ifor Jones Memorial Chamber Music Concert Fund established through a gift from Donald and Christine Wertman.
“Bach at 4: Chamber Music: Bach, Handel & Vivaldi”

Miller has been soloist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, Library of Congress, Washington Bach Consort, Darmstadt International Festival for New Music, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.

Field has been concertmaster since 2001. She has been guest concertmaster, Washington Bach Consort, National Philharmonic, Opera Lafayette, and Chorale Arts Society. She founded the period instrument group, The Vivaldi Project, in 2007, and directs the Modern Early Music Institute (historical performance practice for modern players).
The newly-established endowment fund for “Bach at 4” is from the estate of Rev. Arthur R. Lillicrapp.
“Blessings & Benediction” Concert: Four Cantatas”

Bach Choir Artistic Director and Conductor Greg Funfgeld chose cantatas from which Bach took movements for the “Mass in B Minor.”

Members of Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra
Soloists: Sherezade Panthaki, soprano; Meg Bragle, mezzo-soprano; Lawrence Jones, tenor; Dashon Burton, bass-baritone.
The concert honors and remembers former conductors and members of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra since its beginning in 1898.
