Issue
The candidates for council were asked to respond to the following question in 100 words or less: Why did you decide to run for office?
Charles J. Ervin
I have always been interested in local politics, and hold a strong belief in civic responsibility. Currently, I am an active member of the Lower Macungie Zoning Board. As commissioner, I would be instrumental in helping to establish useful policies, ordinances and establishing budgets that would benefit and serve the community. Also, serving as a commissioner would allow me to be a part of the community where I will be able to share my ideas and concerns.
Brian P. Higgins
In 2013, I made the decision to run for Lower Macungie Township Commissioner because there was a lack of transparency within our government. In my seven years on the board, LMT has become the most transparent local government in the Lehigh Valley. We have preserved more than 300 acres of farmland, removed the possibility of new warehouse construction from our zoning ordinance, made major improvements to our park system and expanded the community center and library. All without a tax increase. I seek re-election because there is still so much more to do.
Brian L. Shoemaker
Efforts to reach Shoemaker were unsuccessful.
Richard V. Ward
Efforts to reach Ward were unsuccessful.
