Maurice O. Ackerman, 88, formerly of Salisbury Township, died May 4, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Macungie. He was the husband of the late Joanne C. (Cutshall) Ackerman, who died in July 2020. Born in Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Morris and Blanche (Berger) Ackerman.

Before retiring, he worked 41 years as a technician in the research center at Bethlehem Steel.

He was a member of Cedar Lutheran Church, Allentown.

After graduating from Liberty High School in 1949, at the age of 17 years old, he then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, he played baseball and basketball. Later at the age of 26, he became a regional baseball umpire for 25 years.

He is survived by a son, Alec and his wife, Liza and their children, Max and Leo, of Allentown; a daughter, Amy, and her husband, Steve Stephanides and their children, Demetrius and Alexia, of Macungie.

At the family request, please no memorials in any way.

A joint memorial service was held at Cedar Church, Allentown. Arrangements were made by the Trexler Funeral Home, Allentown.
