Hokendauqua: Faith will hold blood drive May 17

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road, will be hosting a blood drive 3-7 p.m. May 17.

First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua is planning a bingo night 7 p.m. May 21. The Zoom link will be announced at a later date.

Contact the church office at 610-264-9693 or hokeypres@gmail.com if interesting in joining. The church will need to know how many bingo sheets and dabbers to supply.

The annual free fishing derby will be held May 29 at Hokendauqua Park, 3471 Lehigh St.

Registration is set for 8-8:45 a.m., and the contest runs 9 a.m.-noon.

More than 100 trout will be stocked. There will be first-, second- and third-place awards in four age groups: 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15. An additional prize will be awarded for the overall biggest fish.

The derby, sponsored by Whitehall Township Recreation Bureau, is for children 15 years of age and younger.

You must bring your own bait and tackle. Refreshments will be provided by Hokendauqua Park & Playground Association.

A Memorial Day service with First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua is planned for 11:15 a.m. May 30 at the triangle, not far from the church, 3005 S. Front St.

The property committee of First Presbyterian Church is getting ready to begin work on new landscaping for the front of the church. Plans include trees, shrubbery and flowers. A memorial garden is also planned.

“Look for dedication information upon completion of the project,” according to the church newsletter.

There will be some additional painting projects to the exterior and the window areas inside the sanctuary.

Take a drive by the church in the next couple months to see the beautiful work!

Cheerleading and football camps with Hokey Athletic Association have started.

The dates for cheering are 6-7 p.m. May 20 and 28, June 29 and July 8 and 15 and 5:30-7 p.m. June 6, 13 and 20 (note the time difference).

The football dates are 6-7:30 p.m. May 16, 23 and 30, June 6, 13, 20 and 27 and July 18.

Both camps are at the Hokey football field, 3151 Lehigh St.

Reminders: First Presbyterian is holding outdoor worship services. Services will begin 10 a.m. at the church side lawn. Bring your mask and a lawn chair, and keep a distance between others.

The service will still be livestreamed on Facebook and recorded for the church website.

“We will continue to hold outdoor services until session evaluates a schedule and plan for the return of worship services inside the sanctuary,” the newsletter states.

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church is now holding worship 9 a.m. inside the church. The service will be available for online viewing.

If attending in person, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines will be followed.
