Zephyr track gets another win
The Whitehall track and field team keeps churning out victories as they approach the finish line to the 2021 season.
They recently swept Allentown Central Catholic in a dual meet as the girls won 100-45, while the boys sprinted home with a 93-57 victory.
That gives the Zephyrs boys and girls identical 3-2 records as the postseason swiftly approaches.
In the meet, the girls swept the 100 meter dash. Both Mariele Patungan and Aspen Schache crossed the line in 13.3 seconds, with Schache edging out her teammate for the victory. Arizona Marakovits was third with a 13.7 mark.
Marakovits wasn’t done picking up points in the sprints, winning the 200 in 28.3. She also was tops in the pole vault, sailing over the bar at 9-06.
The same was true for Patungan, although her sprinting had the added obstacles of hurdles. She conquered both the 100 and 300 meter events, winning the former in 17.8, and the latter in 52.6.
Lindsay Solderitch was another multiple winner, taking first in the 400 with a 1:00.7 mark, and the 800 with a 2:36.5 finish.
The girls also swept the high jump, with Alexandra Cook taking the top spot with a 14-04.75 mark. Maisey Hartman was second, landing in the pit with a 13-07.25 leap. Brooke Holmes completed the sweep, traveling 13-03.25 with her jump.
Hartman followed with a win in the triple jump with a 30-01.50 mark. Sophia Gallo finished third in the event, flying a total of 26-04.75.
In the throws, Delaney Sullivan was first in the shot put with a 27-05.75 toss, while Olivia Wickel was the winner in the discus with a 72-05.25 heave.
The girls also took second and third in the javelin, with Brielle Schrey finishing second with a 92-09 mark, while Sullivan claimed third with a 68-05 toss.
The girls also got points from Catherine Hudak who was third in the 400 (1:11.5), and Sophia Mrazik who was third in the 800 with a 2:50 mark.
Mikayla Warren was second in the mile at 6:26.8. while Tessa Hopkins was second in the pole vault with a 7-06 mark.
The girls were also tops in all three relays, helping them cement the victory.
The boys were equally as impressive across the board in the win.
They swept both the 100 and 200 meter races. Vinson Eggleston was tops in the 100, after finishing in 11.7 seconds, the same time recorded for Niko Nomura who secured the second spot. Third place went to Zachary Onsinyo who crossed the line in 11.9.
Daniel Sullivan claimed the top spot in the 200, crossing the line in 24.4 Nomura was also second in the 200, this time finishing with the same mark as teammate Onsinyo with both runners crossing in 24.5.
In the 400, Jakob Schlosser was third, finishing in 55.9. while Sean Connolly was second in the 800 with a 2:12.1 mark.
In the distance races, Christian Foehrkolb was second in the mile with a 5>07.4 finish, while Austin Hedrick was second in the 3,200 with a 12:55 mark.
In the high jump, Andy Magarin was second, sailing over the bar at 5-06. He was also second in the triple jump with a 37-06.50 combined leap.
Tyler Kies was second in the pole vault, soaring over the bar at the same height as winner Viking Charlie Haring as both competitors cleared 10-00, with Haring winning on attempts.
In the long jump, Kyle Patton took second place, finishing with a 17-06 mark, while Dalton Wickel was third in that event with a 17-00 leap.
Julio Maldanado was third in the high jump (5-00), and the triple jump (35-02.50), while Gregory Sommer was third in the pole vault with a 9-06 mark.
The Zephyrs dominated the throws, taking 26 of the possible 27 points in the three events. In the shot, Aiden Tacker was first with a 40-11.50 toss, while Angelo Dadonna was second with a 31-06 heave.
In the discus, Dadonna claimed the top spot with a 94-06.25 mark, while Tacker was second (85-03), and Scott Woodring was third at 78-10.
The javelin produced another sweep as Tristen Tauber won with a 11-07 mark, while Grant Dieter was second (107-00), and Dadonna was third with a 102-03 throw.
The boys also won all three relay races, helping them secure victory over the always-tough Vikings.
