Hurricanes off to a 10-0 start
Liberty’s baseball team hasn’t had many challenges this season, but staying focused on the task at hand certainly won’t be one of them for this year’s group.
The Hurricanes are off to a 10-0 start to the season, as they’ve been a buzz saw to the opposition this season. Liberty’s latest victories last week, two against Northampton and one over Freedom, came by a 28-5 margin.
They remain the lone undefeated team in the conference and head coach Andy Pitsilos acknowledges this team is special.
“This is a very talented team who loves to play baseball,” Pitsilos said. “They are constantly working to get better. At the moment they are very focused, but as you know, you have to come out everyday like it’s the last game you might play. Especially in this day and age.”
That one game approach continued on Monday against Pocono Mountain West, where Liberty completely dominated again with a 15-2 win. Eric Ludwick led the charge with six RBI for the Hurricanes.
Liberty then has Allen on Wednesday, followed by Whitehall Friday and Easton on Saturday. It’ll be a week for Pitsilos and his crew to keep their momentum going with an undefeated regular season in play.
With next week marking the final week of play before the postseason, this Liberty team has the potential for a special run this spring.
“As far as most talented, it’s a team that is up there,” said Pitsilos. “If we take one game at a time we can reach all of our goals.”
Freedom (3-7) has dropped four of their last five games, but stopped the bleeding with a 12-0 win over Easton on Saturday. Andres Suarez went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Peter Hrousis belted in three RBI and a home run.
Zion Frailey got the win on the mound for the Pates, who hope to pick some momentum up this week with a five game slate.
The Pates couldn’t continue their momentum from the win over Easton following a 10-6 loss to Central Catholic on Monday.
Freedom took on Nazareth on Tuesday, followed by Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Dieruff on Friday and Whitehall on Saturday.
Bethlehem Catholic (8-6) have won four of five games and are keeping themselves in the playoff hunt with Monday’s 9-2 win over Allen.
The Hawks get a tough test on Wednesday against Emmaus and then close out the weekend with Pocono Mountain West on Friday and Holy Redeemer on Saturday.
