Monica Hodges seeks seat on South Whitehall board
Monica Hodges, a founding member of South Whitehall Concerned Citizens, is running for South Whitehall Township commissioner.
“We need honest, compassionate, and accessible commissioners who listen to and prioritize the people’s concerns,” Hodges said. “That is why today, I am officially announcing I am a candidate for South Whitehall Township commissioner.”
Hodges says while large development and its effect on township residents initiated her interest and involvement in local government some three years ago, her interests and concerns have grown to include all phases of the government.
As a result, Hodges says she is a multi-issue candidate prepared to address all issues affecting the people.
She says public safety is paramount, and it is essential for the township to provide adequate resources for emergency personnel and public works.
Hodges says she is an ardent supporter of transparency of all government actions, including appointments to volunteer commissions, as well as proper consideration of how tax dollars are spent.
Above all else, Hodges says she will strive to foster respect for individuals, land ordinances, farmland, and the preservation of South Whitehall’s history.
“As a commissioner, I will serve my community, and place citizens’ interests and needs above my own. I will not seek higher office, as my focus will be working for the greater good of the community, not for my own self-interests,” Hodges said. “This can be demonstrated by the lifelong concern and compassion I have shown for others, as a nurse, daughter, wife, friend and most importantly, a mother.“
Hodges attended Central Catholic High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from DeSales University.
She has worked in various areas of nursing including critical care, school nursing, and management.
With her husband, Rob, her three children and her collies, she has called South Whitehall home since 2007.
Her children all attended school in the Parkland School District.
In addition to her work with SWCC, she is also a member of the Upper Macungie Good Neighbor Coalition and believes in the value of local townships working together for mutual benefit.
“It would be a great honor to serve as your commissioner,” Hodges said. “I humbly ask for your support in the Republican primary on May 18.“
