Mary “Mary Beth” Elizabeth McGinley, 70, of North Catasauqua, died April 21, 2021, at her home. She was the wife of William J. McGinley for 44 years.
Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Scannell) Holko.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Alvernia University and master’s degrees in library science and English from Villanova University.
She was a teacher in the gifted/enrichment program and was a librarian for the Parkland School District, then at the Jewish Day School, Allentown, for more than 20 years. She was a teaching librarian at Temple Beth El, Allentown.
She was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, and of the former St. Lawrence Church, where she was on the Altar and Rosary Society.
She was a member of the North Catasauqua Betterment Committee, Catasauqua/North Catasauqua J4 Committee and the Catasauqua/North Catasauqua Halloween Parade Committee for many years. She was president of Women’s Club of Catasauqua and was a member of the board of trustees.
She was named Teacher of the Year in the 1970s, placed third in Pennsylvania and was named to Who’s Who of Top 50 educators. She received Lehigh Valley Hospital’s Woman of the Year Award and the Chaplain Award.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Shannon McGinley-Jaindl and her husband John F. Jaindl; a son, Shawn and his wife Laura; five grandchildren, Liam and Finnegan McGinley and Blake, Blaine and Brennen Jaindl.
