Harold M. Blacker

Harold M. Blacker, 91, of Wescosville, died peacefully April 22, 2021. He was the loving, devoted husband of the late Grace G. (Kolb) Blacker. They celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage before her death in 2016. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Snyder) Blacker.

He graduated from Allentown High School in 1947. He worked for several years in the design department of Mack Trucks, but his heart was drawn to carpentry. He left Mack Trucks and started his own construction business, Harold M. Blacker General Contractors. During more than 50 years in business, he built numerous Lehigh Valley area churches, commercial buildings including banks, retail establishments and factories and even a few special private residences. He was known for his honesty and his word being his bond. He concluded many business dealings with just his word and a handshake.

He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army’s 46th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in Germany from 1951 to 1953.

He was devoted to his church. He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall. He was a driving force and general contractor in the construction of the church and remained very active in it. In his younger years, he served on many committees, especially enjoying the property committee. Even as he aged, he continued to give generously of his time and talents to the church. He looked forward to attending church each Sunday and enjoyed breakfast at the Whitehall Diner after church.

He and his wife spent countless hours watching his grandchildren participate in their activities, especially youth baseball and football games. He and his wife enjoyed long Saturday afternoon car rides in Lancaster County.

He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Pam; a granddaughter, Laura; a grandson, Ryan and his wife, Melissa; a great-grandson, Jack; a sister, Janice and her husband, Lee Huber; a sister-in-law Kathy and her husband, Rick Wright; his grand-doggie Doug.
