The Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority monthly meeting was held April 15 at the CWSA building, 3213 MacArthur Road, Whitehall. CWSA General Manager Matt Harleman presented plans and proposals for significant sewer line work to be done in Cementon.
The project to relocate lines to make way for the Northampton-Cementon Bridge project is mandatory as Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s projected start time is the spring of 2022. CWSA’s work must be done by April 2022. The $434,000 cost for this work is 75-percent reimbursable by PennDOT.
Harleman presented multiple “betterment to system” proposals to coincide with the Northampton-Cementon Bridge project. Visual presentations displayed various options to run new lines to better serve Cementon in the future.
In other business, Harleman reported a manually operated gate at the Eberhart Road pump station broke. This is being treated as an emergency repair.
Labor costs are to be determined as soon as possible, and the estimated time for parts to arrive is 15-20 weeks. A motion to authorize and proceed with obtaining parts and labor was approved.
Chairman John Schreiner briefly addressed a North Whitehall Township letter denying CWSA’s offer to take over its sewer system.
The May 20 CWSA meeting will be an annual meeting with invitations being extended to township and borough officials.
