Craig Lee Bartholomew
Craig Lee Bartholomew, 82, of Lower Macungie Township, died April 19, 2021, in his home. He was the husband of Ann E. (Seed) Bartholomew. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in September 2020. Born in Hellertown, he was a son of the late Llewellyn and Jean (Schrantz) Bartholomew.
He graduated from Hellertown High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State. He met his wife at St. Andrews University in Scotland, where he studied 1960 to 1961.
He was a specialist fifth class with the United States Army during the Cold War.
He was a purchasing agent for Bethlehem Steel for 35 years, retiring in 1998.
He was a founding member and was very active with the Lower Macungie Historical Society and the Bartholomew Center for the Preservation of Lower Macungie Township History, which is named in honor of he and his wife.
He is a past board member of the 1803 House in Emmaus, the Lehigh County Conservation District and the Canal Museum in Easton. He did original research for the anthracite iron industry in the Lehigh Valley.
He was an Eagle Scout and attended the 1953 Boy Scout Jamboree at Irvine Ranch in California.
He and his wife traveled around the country with their children and visited many national parks. They shared a keen interest in environmental and historical conservation, remodeling their home and history, especially grist mills.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kathryn Ruch and her companion, Ronald Bray, of Bethlehem; a son, Jonathan and his wife, Traci Chenette, of Portland, Ore.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Matthew Kuhns, of Macungie; a great-grandson, Bradley Kuhns; brothers, Michael, Keith, Kelly and his wife, Cheryl; a sister, Lisa.
