BC hopes best efforts still coming

Liberty may be playing the best baseball of anyone in the area, but Bethlehem Catholic hopes that their best is yet to come this season too.

The Hawks were back at .500 after a big 11-3 win over Notre Dame ES on Monday

It was what head coach Matt Corsi was looking for from his team, as they head into an important stretch this week with four contests.

“In some areas we have exceeded expectations in other areas we still need some work,” Corsi said. “Overall my goal when the schedule came out was to be 5-5 at this point. So we are right where I thought we would be.”

They look to up the ante on their mark this week with a Tuesday showdown against Nazareth (3-3), followed by Easton (5-3) on Thursday at Coca-Cola Park and Saturday against Notre Dame-Green Pond (9-1).

This week’s slate will be important for the Hawks playoff prospects down the road, but Corsi knows they’ll need to improve in some areas in order to make a push.

“We haven’t peaked yet which is a good thing,” said Corsi. “Overall I am happy with where we are at. This is a very close knit team. They love playing for each other and just being together, which will go a long way as the season goes on.”

Liberty (7-0) is the hottest team in the area, as they’ve coasted through the schedule outscoring opponents 72-15.

The Hurricanes have two games this week against Northampton (2-5) on Tuesday, where they’ll look to continue their unbeaten run this season, followed by a showdown against Freedom on Thursday at Coca-Cola Park.

Freedom (2-3) has two games against Easton this week on Tuesday and Saturday, with their showdown with Liberty on Thursday. They’ll be looking to stay on pace before their schedule gets loaded with games in the second half of the season, as they have five games on the slate next week.
