School board approves contracts, staff changes

At the April 12 Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting, the board approved the memorandum of understanding by and between Whitehall Township Police Department and Whitehall-Coplay School District.

Also approved was the contract with ArtsQuest for the purpose of a senior event planned for June 4, subject to solicitor and administrator approval.

The board approved the amateur license agreement between Music Theatre International and WCSD; the ticketing agreement between Digital Theatre LLC and WCSD; and the agreement between Civic Theatre of Allentown and WCSD for the WHS musical, subject to solicitor and administrator approval.

The board approved the contract between Egypt Memorial Park and WCSD for the 2021 season.

The board also approved the planned course of instruction for grades K-8 and grades 9-12, available at whitehallcoplay.org/curriculum.

In other business, WCSB approved the retirements of Ann Carpenter, supervisor of financial operations at the district office; Barbara Carlson, reading paraprofessional at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School; Cheryl Werley, assistant principals’ secretary at WCMS; and Sandra Rex, supervisor of curriculum and instruction at the district office.

The board approved the resignations of Krista Kimble, math paraprofessional at Zephyr Elementary School; Sarah Talianek, salaried substitute guidance counselor at Whitehall High School; and Daniel Woodman, ESL teacher at WHS.

New appointments include salaried substitute Mary Nehme, part-time ESL and part-time Spanish teacher at WHS, at $54,869 per year; long-term substitute Joanna Suriel, WHS guidance counselor, at $150 per day; Paul Wieder, districtwide technician, at $42,000 per year; Laura Dickert, level I secretary at WCMS, at $27,671 per year; Laurie Bennicas, level I secretary at Steckel Elementary School, at $40,349 per year; Jessica Glackin, part-time secretary at Steckel Elementary, at $18.44 per hour; Madeline Wolfe, part-time library/tech hub at WCMS, at $18.44 per hour; Destiny Williams, supplemental learning support paraprofessional at WHS, at $19.59 per hour; Nawal Gerges, learning support paraprofessional at Gockley Elementary School, at $19.59 per hour; Karen Wallitsch, cafeteria worker at Zephyr Elementary, at $15.33 per hour; Mai Hamad, cafeteria worker at WCMS, at $13.55 per hour; and Rosemarie Flores, cafeteria monitor at Zephyr, at $13.10 per hour.

Coach appointments include Richard Gierula, assistant softball coach at WCMS, volunteer; Christopher Bastidas, boys head soccer coach, at $4,500; Christopher Bleam, girls head soccer coach, at $4,500; Victoria Bobyak, girls head volleyball coach, at $4,500; John Conrad, head golf coach, at $3,136; Timothy Cunningham, head wrestling coach, at $6,410; Jeff Jones, boys head basketball coach, at $8,045; Courtney Kokolus, head cheerleading coach, at $4,500; Michael Lelko, head cross-country coach, at $3,136; Shadimon Navarro, girls head tennis coach, at $3,136; Pete Rile, head swimming coach, at $6,000; William Robertson, girls head basketball coach, at $8,045; and Matthew Senneca, head football coach, at $9,138.
