George Emanuel Hein Jr.
The Rev. George Emanuel Hein Jr., 88, of Lebanon, formerly of Whitehall, died April 16, 2021, in Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.
He and his wife, Loretta E. (Huber) Hein, were married 65 years last Aug. 20.
Born March 19, 1933, in Whitehall, he was the son of the late George E. Hein Sr. and Tillie I. (Stauffer) Hein.
A 1951 graduate of Whitehall High School, he graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in 1958 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree.
After becoming an ordained minister, he served the New Ringgold Lutheran Parish from 1958-62 (Advent, Tuscaroa; Christ, McKeansburg; Friedens, New Ringgold; Zion, Lewistown Valley) Mahoning Lutheran Parish from 1962-65 (Ben Salem, Andreas; St. John’s, Mahoning; St. Peter’s, Mantzville; Zion’s, Snyders), Belfast-Wind Gap Lutheran Parish from 1965-71 (Grace, Belfast and Trinity, Wind Gap), Allegheny Lutheran Church, in Alleghenyville from 1971-80, Bethel-Rehrersburg Lutheran Parish from 1980-91 (Altalaha, Rehrersburg and Salem, Bethel), Christ Lutheran Church, Penn Forest Township from 1991-95, and visitation pastor at Jordan Evangelical Lutheran Church, Orefield, from 1996-2003.
Throughout his professional tenure, he held many church related positions and participated in many church and community related activities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Wilson G. Hein (Sarah) of Lebanon, and Daniel T. Hein (Susan) of Mohnton.
He was predeceased by a sister, Esther Laub; brothers Emanuel and Ralph; half-sisters Sallie Thomas, Bonnie Schaffer and Virginia Beidler.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. April 22 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road, Whitehall.
The Rev. Thomas D Busteed will officiate.
Family and friends may pay their respects 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Interment will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery, South Whitehall.
