EHS names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I’m currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My parents are named Kevin and Tiffany. I have a twin sister named Kyla and a little brother named Jared. We have a Doberman named Boba and five cats named Blaze, Posie, Jinx, Ivy and Flanigan.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subjects are math and computer science. I’ve always loved computers and electronics as a kid, and learning how they work and how to create programs of my own quickly became a favorite subject in high school.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I’ve earned honor roll every semester since sixth grade and I’m a member of National Honor Society. I’ve also received the Presidential Merit Scholarship from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?
A. I run on the cross-country and track teams at Emmaus, which have both been affected by the distancing guidelines and school closures. Despite that, we’re still practicing and the track season began recently. I’m also on our school’s American Computer Science League Club, which has been relatively unaffected except for our competitions are now either mostly canceled or held online.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge has been maintaining my academic performance while taking multiple AP classes in computer science, math and science in preparation for college.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My next goal is to get through college. I’ve been accepted into the Rochester Institute of Technology to study computer science and it’ll be my next big step toward finishing my education and starting a career.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my parents, who are two of the most hardworking people I know. Their dedication has given me so many opportunities, and I owe much of my success to them. I hope to be able to provide for a family the same way they did for me.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I want to be remembered for the positive impacts I had on my peers in the classroom.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Play to your strengths and dedicate yourself to improving wherever you can.
