John P. Pokrivchak

John P. Pokrivchak, 69, died April 13, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospital - Warren, New Jersey. Born in Easton, he was a son of the late John and Julia (Lampart) Pokrivchak. He was the husband of Matilda (Estephan) Pokrivchak for 45 years.

He was a 1970 graduate of Phillipsburg High School and a 1972 graduate of Mercer County Community College. He was a 1974 graduate of William Paterson University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He pursued graduate studies at Kean University.

For 32 years he taught art at the Phillipsburg Middle School.

He was a past president of the Phillipsburg Education Association for two terms.

He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.

He was with the Norwescap Food Bank where he was dubbed “The Food Guy”.The “PEA/John Pokrivchak Philanthropic Fund” was named to honor his community outreach. He volunteered for many years with the Warren County Cancer Association. He was a member of the Easton Area Corvette Club through which he volunteered with “Vettes for Pets” and “Camelot for Children”.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Krista Reffler (husband, Thomas) of Palmer Township; a son Nicholas (partner, Sophia Verbiscar) of Bethlehem; a sister, June Polcari of Phillipsburg; two grandchildren, Genevieve and Ridge Reffler; two brothers-in-law, Jabbour Estephan and Gus Siskas; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Estephan and Anise Bailey; nieces; nephews; great-nieces;and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by in-laws, Tannous and Susan Estephan; a sister-in-law, Cathy Siskas; and two brothers-in-law, Stephen Bailey and Robert Polcari.
