LifeAire, a Ben Franklin Technology Partners client and healthcare technology company, is utilizing its innovative air filtration system to help mitigate the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The air-filtration system protects dental practices, commercial office spaces, transportation spaces and educational facilities.
With the assistance of BFTP/NEP, LifeAire adapted the technology for hospitals and senior-living facilities to reduce infections, illness and length of stay in response to the pandemic.
LifeAire applied the technology to create portable, rapid decontamination units for N95 masks that kill COVID-19 and other pathogens within all layers of the mask, supporting sustainability and helping with PPE shortages.
While able to kill anthrax spores and other infectious airborne pathogens, the already-existing technology was found to be effective against COVID.
LifeAire CEO Dr. Kathryn C. Worrilow, Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/NEP) Chief Marketing Officer Laura Eppler and BFTP/NEP Lehigh Valley Regional Manager Doug Engler participated in a press conference about the air filtration system, presented by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
Eppler and Engler described how Ben Franklin Technology Partners supports the efforts of tech companies like LifeAire with grants and mentoring services.
Worrilow explained that LifeAire’s air filtration system was originally developed to protect embryos in highly-sensitive in vitro fertilization facilities.
The press conference about LifeAire Systems, 1275 Glenlivet Dr., Allentown, was held Jan. 5.
