NHS boys track looks forward to return

The last time the Northampton boys track team saw action was a 6-3 season back in 2019.

With a lost season in 2020, the boys team also lost a few seniors who never got their chance to shine in their final season. That included: Nick Bodnar, Tyrese Brandon, Zach Gula and Vince Gallagher.

The good news is, the boys return of host of key members as well as some promising newcomers for 2021.

Back for the boys this year are: Owen Nafh, Nico Quinones, Tyler Klucsarits, Matt Heisler, Ben Henry, Wyatt Poniktera and Omar Elamin. The key newcomers, according to head coach Tim Caffrey, are: Logan Henry, Justin Shambo, Gavin Nika, Ezekiel Colyler and Shaun Apsley.

“We lost 17 seniors last season who did not get their chance to shine because of invisible virus,” McCaffrey said. “We have good, new prospects this year who are looking for a season in their [last year’s seniors] memory. Should be an evenly balanced team with all events covered. We are playing in a very competitive Northampton County Division this season and are looking forward to playing teams as in the past with East Penn Conference. There will be shorter bus rides than playing in the North Division.”

Quinones will run hurdles and middle distance races. He was a league qualifier in 2019 in the 300 hurdles and finished 14th. Heisler will runs sprints and relays and Nahf will run the distance races. Poniktera will run mid-distance races and distance relays. Henry will run sprints and relays and Colyler mid-distance races. Klucsarits is a thrower.

Caffrey is assisted by: Dave Albright, John Blick, Bernie Gabryluk, Bill Gillespie, Ashley Gulla and Hannah Marth.
