LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I’m currently a senior at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mom and my dad, Amy and Joe, and our pet parrotlet, Metty.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is probably history. I’ve always loved my social studies classes and I think that learning about the past and where we come from is fascinating. It helps us to understand why the world is the way it is today, as well as letting us make connections to current events. I also just enjoy being aware of the history of everything around us.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I’m a member of both National Honor Society and French Honor Society. I’ve won multiple awards for journalism, including a national superior for news writing and a national excellence in news writing. I’ve also taken first place in news writing at regional competitions, and just recently received both a first place and honorable mention in the Keystone Media Awards. I’ve also made it to the regional History Day levels with my group three times and recently qualified for states.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I’m the co-editor-in-chief of our art and literary magazine, Collage and I’m the head news editor for The Stinger, our school newspaper. I’m also the treasurer of French Club and my church’s youth group and a member of Peace Club and my church choir. Not being able to meet in person has been a difficulty this year, especially in terms of designing the magazine and newspaper. I think we’ve definitely adapted and made the best out of the situation, though.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. Figuring out where to go to college. The pandemic has completely changed the way seniors have to approach the college search this year and has made my decision much harder.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I hope to study English and journalism at Washington College.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my parents. They’re both incredibly hardworking and resilient and I’d like to think those are two traits they’ve passed onto me.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I want to be remembered as someone who’s willing to be there for anyone who needs help or someone to lean on.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Live in the moment and enjoy what you have around you right now – and if that’s something that makes you happy, then hold onto it.
