Commissioners hold hybrid meeting

The Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners met April 1 for a hybrid meeting where some Commissioners were live at the township offices and others remained online. This occurred as a transitional form of easing back into live meetings.

A minor subdivision was approved in the area of the new Weis Market. The actual address is 1591-1601 Greystone Circle, Alburtis. Construction of a single twin structure with two new units was proposed.

Nine fire hydrants were approved for Grandview Crossings, Weis Market and Woodmont Apartments.

The outdoor sales resolution was considered for extension through Nov. 1. This was approved by the commissioners.

A bid award was proposed for the high performance chip seal/quick set fog seal program. The bid was awarded to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions in the amount of $233,760. There was only one bid for this project.

There were six bids for the roadway crack sealing program. The low bid was for Asphalt Maintenance Solutions in the amount of $60,307. The bid was approved by the commissioners. There are 67 township roads to be sealed.

The sewer and manhole project received approval for a bid. SWERP, Inc. had the lowest bid and was approved for doing the work. The bid of $647,160 was reduced due to being over the budgeted amount. The reduction will be made by eliminating the work on the manhole lining. This will reduce the amount to $560,432.

The Lower Macungie Township pool season will start as usual. Lower Macungie Township is partnering with Emmaus Aquatic Club for management. While the agreement is still in draft form, the pool will open as suggested and the plans will continue to be fine-tuned.

Township Manager Bruce Beitel expressed the township’s gratitude for the work done with the Easter bunny event at the township building April 3. Thanks was given to everyone involved despite the social distancing and mask requirements.

The contract for line striping within the township was awarded to A-1 Traffic Control. The bid was for $287,742 which includes striping for 15 municipalities.

There was an executive session held regarding land acquisition after the March 22 and April 1 meetings.
