LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Liberty baseball looks like they’ll be one of the team’s to beat this year, as the Hurricanes are off to 4-0 start following Monday’s 14-4 thrashing over Nazareth.

Parker Frey had a home run and three RBIs in Monday’s victory, while Eric Ludwick added four RBI for the ‘Canes.

The win comes days after the Hurricanes knocked off Parkland last Saturday, 3-2 in an early season litmus test.

“Well, our start has been good, but our performance up until now is about a five on a scale of 1-10,” said head coach Andy Pitsilos. “There is a lot we need to work on. For me, the Parkland win was a nonleague game which didn’t really mean too much, but for the kids, it was a confidence booster. Parkland is always a talented, well coached team and a perennial powerhouse.”

Liberty will have a full slate of action this week, as they battled Easton on Tuesday and then have contests against Bethlehem Catholic Wednesday and Friday.

For Pitsilos, it’s all about managing the season at this point.

“Well we have another three-game stretch ahead,” he said. “We are trying to keep arms healthy while trying to win one game at a time.”

Freedom (1-1) has four games this week as well, starting with Tuesday’s encounter against Bethlehem Catholic, followed by Northampton on Wednesday and Friday. They close out the week against Emmaus on Saturday, as they look to get in the swing of things.

Bethlehem Catholic (3-3) has scaled back after their quick start to the season, losing to Easton, Nazareth and Freedom since.

The Hawks took on Freedom yesterday past Press deadlines and then have back-to-back encounters with Liberty to close out the week.
