FHS hopes for playoff berth

Youth and inexperience is the theme for Freedom’s baseball team as they come into a new spring season. With last year lost due to COVID, the Pates bring a green group to the field this spring, who will need to get up to speed quickly.

“Getting back into the playoffs after missing in 2019 while winning the division are our goals, “ said head coach Nick D’Amico. “We are going to need our young guys step up right away. We have a lot of inexperience on the varsity level and it will take some time for them to get that experience they missed last year. We will need to focus on the small things and that should get us where we need to be by the end of the year.”

Freedom’s returning players are Garrett Glick SS (Sr), Nate Mikulski OF, 1B, P, (Sr.) Nick Sciarra OF, P, (Sr.), Zion Frailey OF, P,(Sr.) and Andres Suarez C, (Jr.).

Newcomers include Luis Osorio OF (Sr), Joey Fancera 2B (Sr), Antonio Gonzalez 3B (Sr), Griffin Coyne P, SS (Jr), Jonathan Rivera OF, P (Jr), Peter Hrousis P, 1B (So) and Ryan Hoffman 3B, P, 1B (So).

“Players are eager to get back on the field and have been working hard to get back what they missed last year,” said D’Amico. “We will need to play good defense while getting some clutch hitting throughout the lineup. We have a lot of inexperience on the varsity level and will need those players to step up.”
